Bwaaahahahaha~~:LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL:

So the city of Toronto decided to light up the city's greatest landmark in the colors of their rival team. The very team that eliminated them in the first round.
What made them think that was a good idea??

Was time for all of Canada to rally up support for Les Canadiens to bring cup back to Canada🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Gogogo! Allez allez allez🍻🍻🍻

The Habs are one win away from claiming their spot in the finals. It will be good to see Vegas and the glitz go down.

I had a videoconference with some work colleagues in Montreal, and they were already more exited about the UEFA Euro tourny. I would have assumed everyone in the city would only be thinking about the cup finals. They can be a harsh crowd.

They must not be hockey fans or something because there been riots after Montreal beat Las Vegas haha🍻

It was a great run, but the Habs are running out of steam.

The colleague I have near Montreal has been in high gear. He and his family's 'lucky' attire is not conducive to watching hockey during the summer.

He said "I almost wore my jersey because I knew you'd be on this call." :)

Hopefully we won't see a repeat of Vancouver when they lost in the finals. I forget, was it that bad when Calgary and Edmonton lost as well?
The only city I know that hasn't had a hockey riot in the past decade is Toronto, for obvious reasons ;)

But the summer is when you need to be wearing your lucky clothing for a hockey team. I guess the "suffering" brings them luck?

Naw, other cities not as bad as Vancouver, not even Montreal - not sure why...was a weird thing fans just freaking out and breaking things, probably they all drunk.

Calgary and Edmonton pretty civilised after losing in playoffs. Haha, yeah Toronto haven't had any chances for years - but they are one of three true hockey dynasties that have won Cup 3 years in row or more, the other two being Montreal and Long Island.

2004-2007 was an interesting time, with a different Canadian team losing in the finals each year. Then vancity had to ruin it a couple years later being a sore loser. I recall the Toronto G7 riots were really bad too, so it's possible it could have been similar - thankfully given the leaf's history that's never been an issue.

You're right in that there are very few true dynasties, but you have to wonder what the Gretzky-era Oilers could have done if they didn't trade him.

Yeah the old days were good, even with so few Canadian teams compared to American they still managed to stay competitive in the NHL - older days were even better!

Yeah Vancouver fans sore losers, makes no sense to destroy other people property, local store owners etc are fans too - dumb.

I think of they keep him Edmonton would eventually win 3 in as row or more, because of Gretzky stays then all the other stars stay as well as attracting other great players to the teams too.

I think Gretzky wanted to go though, his new wife at time is from Hollywood....guess we'll never know true story, but common sense says no team would ever trade him in his prime.

I am legitimately worried for the city of Montreal if they lose tomorrow, especially after all that's happened this week. Between being pent up for over a year and all the politics going on, the embarrassment of a sweep will be a recipe for chaos.

I could see how there was some benefit to Gretzky moving, but I can't imagine that would have been his sole preference. I know there's a lot written about how it was ultimately up to him, but it's hard to accept that he wasn't coerced. He's written a couple books, but like you said, I don't think we'll ever know the true story.

I hope no riots either, I'll be pretty sad if Montreal doesn't win at least one game, I'm gonna watch the game anyways and hope for the best.

With Wayne Gretzky I think what you said about how it was ultimately up to him is correct, how could it not be with the best hockey player ever?

He also is a world class superstar living and working in a city that is very nice but nothing compared to Hollywood, I'm sure he enjoyed it as Canadian cities is what he's used to - but he has responsibilities to keep his wife happy too - I really can't see her being happy living in Edmonton for rest her life.

Notwithstanding anything published about this already, my opinion is that firstly - Edmonton didn't want to lose him, and what they got back in return was blatantly not worth what they sent away, so this tells me that Edmonton was negotiating this trade from a position for weakness. I assume that the reason they were in this position of weakness was because Gretzky made it known to the owners that he wanted to go to Los Angeles and also all parties understood that he made up his mind and the owners had no choice but to make it happen.

Second, his wife is from Hollywood, that alone makes it no coincidence that Hollywood is where he went.

Third, Gretzky did say that he believed that him going to play in an American market was important to advance and promote the NHL in America, this is true - if he did not go when he did, the NHL would have never gain as much popularity in America in the same timeframe as opposed to if he stayed in Canada. But, this reason seems to deflect attention away from the first two reasons, and is does so conveniently for Gretzky.

Gretzky has had total control over his career throughout period. From Edmonton to Los Angeles to St Louis to New York, there is never a time he was not in total control - what he can't control as well, as many others cannot similarly, is the expectations of his family and mostly his wife. This is all my opinion only.

So I think the move to Hollywood was solely to appease his wife, I personally think he wanted to stay in Edmonton to win more Cups, but he knows that being a good team player is important - and his family is his team as well, keeping a family together and happy is not easy to do.

Well, at least it was still an exciting finish to the game itself.

The news feed seems pretty quiet. I don't see any stories like this tonight (so far)
https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/montrea...s-fans-without-warning-after-game-4-1.5499121

Even though they didn't bring Cup back, Les Habitant still made us proud, they gave their all and winning isn't everything - it's how the game is played and they gave it their best effort 👏👏👏

Seeing the heartbreak tonight was agonizing, especially the veterans like Webber Gallagher Price Stall Perry - it hard not winning but Cup or no Cup the way hockey players pick themselves up to congratulate the team that they just lost too is so honorable, and these Canadiens did indeed prove to the world how honourable Les Habitants and Canada are🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
